Variation theory (VT) is not unique to mathematics education but has often been used to explore mathematics learning by focusing on the different ways that it is possible to look at, or experience, the same thing; 2

No matter how old you are, there's always room for improvement when it comes to studying. Whether you're taking the biggest exam of your life or you know your teacher or professor is going to give a pop quiz soon, efficient studying is a gr You read over your notes. The variation theory stems from the concept of phenomenography. Although some applications of the theory can be found, the theory is not well known in the field of education, especially with respect to the teaching of business and management subjects. The aim of this paper is to explore the use of the variation theory for teaching management concepts. A case of designing an educational setting This website is my attempt to assemble a collection of high-quality, sequences of questions and examples using key principles from Variation Theory. By holding key features between questions and examples constant, together with the mathematical behaviour that I call reflect, expect, check, explain and the supporting role of the teacher, I believe we can help students better understand key Phenomenography, Variation Theory and Learning Study (PeVALS) The research group brings together researchers from all departments in the Faculty of Education and Society, and is based on the participating members’ background as educational practice-based research since 20 years. Students’ knowing, students’ learning and the instruction was analyzed using narratology, phenomenography and Variation Theory.
Variation Theory for Better Teaching and Learning in Learning Study June 24, 2019 July 15, 2019 WALS Admin The webinar will be chaired by Dr. Yuefeng Zhang , Assistant Professor of The Education University of Hong Kong, a Council member of The World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS).
Learning Study is different from Lesson Study in that the Variation Theory is embedded to guide teachers in addressing the focus and issues in student learning. Learning Study is a special type of Lesson Study.
Furthermore, the major focus of a learning study is on the objects of learning, i.e., on what students are expected to learn, rather than on the teaching arrangements. According to the variation theory, to help students appropriate certain objects of learning, certain patterns of variation and invariance that are co-constituted by the learners and

Lärare tog till sig denna insikt i ett learning study-projekt där de fick chans att ställa the object of learning by being engaged in a theory-based professional learning com Jul 9, 2017 In this video, I introduce the subject of Variational Calculus/Calculus of Variations .

Phenomenography, Variation Theory and Learning Study (PeVALS) The research group brings together researchers from all departments in the Faculty of Education and Society, and is based on the participating members’ background as educational practice-based research since 20 years. Students’ knowing, students’ learning and the instruction was analyzed using narratology, phenomenography and Variation Theory. The results show that in order to make the knowing of storywriting teachable, students need to be able to discern two main aspects: (a) seeing the story from the reader’s perspective and (b) discerning that a story is built up by problems and solutions. Phenomenography/Variation Theory (PVT) proposes that people learn by experiencing variation in critical aspects of conceptions of a phenomenon. In a Learning Study, both teacher learning and student learning have been explained in terms of PVT (e.g. Wong & Lo, 2008; Cheung & Wong, 2014).
